Mortar and Pestle with Bay Leaves
Back to a bit of much loved, and missed painting for a while. As the salad days seem to have linked up with a spot of rare sunshine here in the village I thought a little Pesto` would hit the spot. Where, I hear you ask are the other Basil Leaves? Why, in the Mortar of course. Hard work this art lark, what with hidden subjects and secret messages. Am I simply celebrating the ability to paint? Making a comment on our summer season or something witty concerning the crushing and grinding involved with daily life? Beats me!

Japonica Cutting
Kindly donated by "Hank" from across the road. Today`s study is a bold testament to the onset of a much awaited Spring. It has been a long cold and dull Winter. Finally it seems as though we`ve turned the corner. What with lighter evenings and slightly warmer air let`s hope for a long hot Summer. Bold strong reds pushing out of the darkness into a new season..
O, TO be in England
Now that April 's there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf
Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough
In England—now! Just for the record, I didn`t make that bit up.

Time for Bed
What`s in a name? I could just as easily have called today`s little interior painting, Onwards and Upwards or The Steps that Lead, even Invitation Only or how about Thick Red Carpet? There seems to be a million flights of steps and stairs on my postal round, so I really just wanted to reflect this drudgery without actually showing the bleakness of it all. I think this image does just that!

Hard Case
I`ve learnt that to be an artist it`s important to remain sensitive in order to let out a creative desire. Yet, in the face of much rejection a thick skin is often needed. I suppose like much of life in general a balancing act is required. Fortunately the day job keeps me firmly rooted with only a few eggs in one basket.

Salad Days
I know it`s St David`s day and perhaps a painting to reflect this is in order. However, true to form being ever so slightly off the pace, here`s an unrelated topic.
This last few days there seems to be an increasing break in the leaden skies bringing with it a much needed flash of light and promise. Spring has yet to appear though some buds are trying hard. March, they say comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Me with my head almost literally in the clouds, I`m just dreaming about a warmer time, roll on the summer.
